I had the absolute pleasure of attending my second Gamescom last week in Cologne, Germany.
Continue reading →We’re already halfway through the year and my original Most Anticipated Games of 2018 list is pretty much irrelevant now. Well, at least half irrelevant.
Last year was monumental for games with stellar releases from both indie and AAA studios leading to so many interesting experiences and stories I couldn’t even play half of them. Fortunately (unfortunately?), developers are continuing full steam ahead into 2018 with many incredible releases I cannot wait to buy and never have time to play! Continue reading →
The annual celebration of PlayStation kicked off Friday night when thousands of PlayStation fans packed into the Anaheim Convention Center for the Opening Celebration of the fourth ever PlayStation Experience. Taking a different tone than the traditional conferences we’ve seen at E3 and Gamescom, this year the stage was set with couches and chairs where various PlayStation executives and designers wearing ill-fitting blazers and graphic tees sat down and had a more personal presentation for the PlayStation fans watching. I’ve been hyped for My Friend Pedro: Blood Bullets Bananas before I even knew that was its name. I saw a gif on Twitter of this dual-wielding character kicking a frying pan into the air and shooting bullets off it to kill two guys behind cover. I was sold. I followed the mysterious Dead Toast Entertainment (@deadtoast_com) responsible for this glorious gif and got more and more awesome gifs over the following months. I reached out and asked for an interview which I was graciously given and that’s when I learned there was but one man behind this game: Victor Agren. Continue reading →
In case you missed it, I had the amazing opportunity to experience one of the largest game conventions in the world last month, Gamescom. Studios, publishers and indie developers from around the globe gathered in Cologne, Germany to show off their projects to the world. I got the chance to play many of these games as I prowled the show’s many floors and halls with Blot Interactive designer Emily Van Lingen, who was gracious enough to take many of the photos in this article. We played a lot of games, talked to a lot of developers and saw so much cool stuff from cosplays to statues to elaborate booths. Continue reading →
For those unfamiliar with Arkane Studio’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Prey, it’s a reboot of the 2006 game of the same name. This time around things are very different, Arkane is focusing on branching story arcs and multiple endings similar to their other series Dishonored. In fact, a great deal of the game is building upon the successes of last year’s Dishonored 2, both mechanically and visually. This is another step in Arkane Studio’s mission to etch out and master a particular style in the AAA game scene that’s unique to them. Similar to how Naughty Dog has dominated the third-person adventure genre with Uncharted and The Last of Us, Arkane Studios has their sights set on dominating first-person adventures where characters, world-building and player choice drive the experience both with their breakout Dishonored games and now Prey. In the first Nintendo Direct since the launch of Nintendo’s handheld/console hybrid, the Nintendo Switch, there was a great deal of excitement about the future of Nintendo. The Switch is the fastest selling console in Nintendo history and Breath of the Wild has sold over a million units since launch. Things are looking bright for Nintendo, especially after the bleak wasteland that was the last few years of the Wii U. So on April 12th, Nintendo aired a new Direct showcasing not only the future of the Nintendo Switch but their continued support of the Nintendo 3DS. Continue reading →
2016 is in the books and after a jam-packed holiday season with hits like Dishonored 2 and Pokemon Sun & Moon, everyone’s wallets are a little lighter. But moving into 2017 the releases aren’t slowing down at all. With huge console exclusives from all the big players and new hardware 2017 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years of the current console generation, if we still even have console generations anymore. So we compiled a list of the best, most awesome video games coming in 2017. Take a look! Continue reading →
We Happy Few launched on Steam and Xbox One in early access this past week and I was so excited that I dove right in. After their extremely successful Kickstarter campaign, Compulsion Games seems to have gone the Early Access route to not only receive that invaluable player feedback but also help fund the rest of the game’s development. I’ve been fascinated by this title ever since I saw the first trailer last year showcasing the dystopic and peculiar world of Wellington Wells and its denizens. There is something quite beautiful and at the same time terrifyingly disturbing about the world built in We Happy Few and something that begs exploration. So I explored and what I found left me hungry for more. Continue reading →
